Day Five: the 4th of July, 2014

This is my first Fourth of July out of Huntsville. I like ‘em better in Huntsville. We went to Independence, Missouri, and Liberty, Missouri. That was cool.

Life in here consists pretty much of making food, laughing, cleaning up, making messes, stressing, chasing the bus, packing up and down, driving, and visiting visitor’s centers. Oh, and we learn a lot about history and see some sweet sights.

Added to that, I take pictures, and more pictures, and write and write and write!

To start out the day, we went to a visitor’s center, in Kanesville.

Enchantress, Encumbered, and Radiant

Someone decided that Brigham should show the proper support for his team.
This is the tabernacle where Brigham was sustained as prophet. It was built in 2 weeks by 200 volunteers! This is where I got to play a one hundred year old organ.

it was pretty cool, and had a drastically different touch

Elephant? no, that is Raconteur...

We then headed to Independence.
the Community of Christ temple. Pretty, right? it is used for study, not ordinances.

We went to another visitor’s center.
"are you sure?"

"giddyup!"

"WOAH!"

so cute!

Then we saw this:

Pretty normal, right? Until I tell you that this courthouse is mentioned in scripture. In Doctrine and Covenants 57:3, it tells of a courthouse by which the temple of New Jerusalem will be built. That is this courthouse. It has been redone, but still stands on the same foundation.
This corner has a special place in my heart. This is where the first bishop, Edward Partridge was tarred and feathered by a mob. He bore it with such dignity that afterwards, a humbled mob apologized, and returned his clothes.

The Gilbert Whitney Store, also mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants...

Then we went to Liberty to stay the night. We picked up Emergent from the airport.
That’s all for now!
